UK Contractors Group recommends use of CARES schemes
16/07/2015
UK Contractors Group (UKCG) have produced a new guide on Procuring responsibly sourced steel reinforcement for their members. It has been produced to support the commitment of UKCG members to give preference to procuring products which are able to demonstrate compliance with a recognised responsible sourcing scheme, certified by a third party.
The guide maps out the evidence required from steel mills, fabricators, sub-contractors and main contractors to demonstrate both product quality assurance and responsible sourcing. The CARES Sustainable Constructional Steel (SCS) scheme and Steel for the Reinforcement of Concrete (SRC) scheme both feature prominently in the guide.
CARES has been running for over 30 years and has a strong track record in assuring the quality of reinforcing steel produced around the world including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, China, Luxembourg and Turkey.
Clients and specifiers should specify CARES approved reinforcement manufacturers and fabricators with confidence that the product will comply with the relevant reinforcement standard without the need for costly, on-site testing.
