Update following the trade deal between the UK and EU – the UK Conformity Assessment mark and UK Notified Bodies.

CARES wish to update you following the trade deal between the UK and the EU. A review of the detailed trade deal agreement has not indicated any change by the EU to recognise UK Notified bodies, neither are there any details as to whether a mutual recognition agreement is planned which will allow this in the near future.

CARES can confirm that its transition to a UK Notified Body and Technical Assessment body is complete. Further details as to CARES scope of approval can be found via the following link to our UKAS certificate.

The Construction Products Regulations (CPR) state that CE marking can only be applied to products with either a harmonised standard or those covered by an appropriate European Assessment Document (EAD), together with corresponding European Technical Assessment (ETA) for product supplied by customers.

Reinforcing steel in its numerous forms may be certified against BS4449, BS8666, BS4483 which are not harmonised standards and therefore not covered by the CPR.

There are currently no European standards covering reinforcing steel products which are regarded as harmonised, or covered by an EAD, hence the validity of these BS standards will remain unaffected.
