Tony Cusens, former CARES Chairman

The CARES Board is extremely sorry to learn of the death of our distinguished former Chairman Professor Anthony (Tony) Cusens, who played a very important role in CARES’ development.

Prof Cusens was a former President of the Institution of Structural Engineers and enjoyed a very long and successful career in the industry, including a period in the 1990s as Chairman of the Board of CARES until he stepped down, to be replaced by Dr George Somerville, OBE in 2001.

Awarded an OBE in 1989 for his services to the Department of Transport, Prof. Cusens was a successful academic, heading the department of civil engineering at Leeds University as well as playing an active role in the Concrete Society where he also served as President.
